A little elephant is probably the most protected young animal in Africa. For a young elephant calf is not only protected by it's strong and determined mother, it also has the protection of the whole herd. This little elephant was no older than a couple of months when I took this photograph. It was very curious but also unsure of our presence, running around between its families legs, still small enough to walk under mommy's tummy. We could see the trunks of the other elephants in the herd reaching for it, always making sure it was safe and ready to offer support if the youngster would trip and fall with it's still wobbly legs.
