Southern Ground Hornbills are extremely prehistoric looking birds, almost resembling a dinosaur relative. These birds always provide a special sighting due to the fragility of their population - they are an endangered species and are regarded as Vulnerable in the Roberts VII Bird Book. Thanks to increasing conservation efforts and research, Southern Ground Hornbills are on their way to recuperate into a more stable population in the ecosystem.
It is truly wonderful to see the efforts of conservation paying off in real time.
