With Craig & Karolina

Hills & Plains

Join the Wildest Kruger Safaris team our premium photographic safari to two of the Greater Kruger National Parks famous private nature reserves; Klaserie and Manyeleti.

The Klaserie's landscape is predominantly hills with rocky terrain and big riverine thickets making it a great habitat for leopards and wild dogs. While the Manyaleti is the best place in the Greater Kruger to look for animals such as cheetah and lions.

Through the whole safari you'll be learning about photography and editing from Karolina and animal behaviour from Craig, while exploring the wild of Kruger National Park, with a small group of only 4 guests.

TIME OF YEAR

Green Season

February is during the hight of so called 'Green Season' since it's the time of the year when the tropical storms transform the Kruger National Park to a lush green paradise, bringing back migratory birds all the way from northern Africa and Southern Europe to feed on the abundant of insects that come out during this time.

This is the best time of the year for those looking to capture photos with gorgeous green backdrops, a lush landscape and the iconic dung beetle rolling its ball or any of the colourful birds that are abundant this time of the year.

This is also known as 'baby season' since most antelopes have their babies around this time of the year and there are cute youngsters around every corner.

DESTINATIONS

Klaserie Private Nature Reserve

With no fences between the reserve and Kruger Park, the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park, which is one of the most natural ecosystems on the African continent. Home to the famous big 5 and all the other wonderful wildlife, making it the perfect place to acquire photographic knowledge while out exploring the wild.

We'll be situated in the northern part of the reserve, which is famous for it's hilly and rocky terrain. This part of the reserve also has a very low vehicle density, which enables us to spend much longer time at each sighting without being disturbed by other vehicles. In this area we'll be looking for leopard, hyenas and wild dogs, among with all the various species of antelopes, giraffes and elephants that roam through it.
Manyeleti Game Reserve
In contrast to Klaserie, Manyeleti is very flat with a lot of open plains. This type of habitat is ideal for big herds of zebra and wildebeest, which brings in big prides of lions and is also one of the best areas in Kruger to try and see cheetah.

It will be an interesting change of scenery and open up new opportunities for photography.

In contrast to Klaserie this area has a higher vehicle density, however regulations are in place to minimise the amount of vehicle at each sighting and since all vehicles keep in contact with each other, more eyes on the roads means higher chances of finding specific animals.

ITINERARY

DSC07184-2.jpg

Day 1

You will be picked up at Hoedspruit Airport. Once you arrive at the lodge you will be greeted by the Wildest Kruger Safaris team and the staff of Klaserie Camps. You will have high tea (a late lunch) and receive an introduction with your personal guides Karolina Norée and Craig Reid and get to know the rest of the group. Late afternoon we will leave for our first safari drive and return to the lodge for dinner at around 7 o’clock in the evening.

Day 2-5

The days at the lodge will be filled with safari drives, editing lessons, time in nature and lots of photo opportunities.

In the mornings you will receive an early wake-up call around 5am to meet at the lodge main complex for a quick cup of tea or coffee before we will depart on our morning safari as the sun rises.

We will return to the lodge for brunch at around 9 or 10 am, as the light starts to become too harsh, and the animals are less active during the heat of the day.

After brunch you’ll have time to spend on what you prefer; relax, have a drink, jump in the pool or spend time photographing the animals coming to drink at the waterhole situated in front of the lodge.

Later in the afternoon Karolina will hold a photography and editing lesson before we have high tea together and we set out once again for an afternoon safari around 4pm, to return to the lodge for dinner at around 7 and 8 pm.

Included in this itinerary is the chance to do a scenic helicopter flight over the Blyde River Canyon, one of the mornings during game drive, to give you the opportunity for landscape photos from the air. A once-in-a-lifetime adventure flying over the largest green canyon in the world.

Day 6

After our usual morning safari and brunch we'll transfer together to Tintswalo Safari Lodge in the Manyeleti Game Reserve and check in to their Manor House which will be our private lodge for the duration of our stay.

Once everyone has settled in and we've had a bite to eat we'll head out on afternoon game drive to explore the Manyeleti.

Day 7-8

We continue our schedule just the same as in the Klaserie, to maximise the best light and photographic opportunities in the early mornings and late afternoons.

Day 9

On our last day together we do one final game drive in the morning before we pack up and head to the airport to say good bye.

MEET THE TEAM

MEET THE TEAM

Karolina Norée

Karolina is Wildest Kruger Safaris’ own professional photographic guide and the 'visuals' of the company. She will be assisting you to get the best possible shots during your time at Nzumba, helping you with everything from camera settings, composition and other photo-tips, to how to get the most out of your photos during post processing.

Craig Reid

Craig is our private guide and the 'words' of the company. He is the one who will assist you with any logistics before the trip, and tell you anything you'd like to know about the animals we see during the trip, help you predict their movements and put you in the perfect spot for the best shots.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Quality over Quantity
One of the many beauties of doing this safari in the Greater Kruger reserves is the possibility to off-road and be able to position ourselves in the best photographic angles without the restrictions of the roads.

We will also be working with a tracker at both lodges, who knows the area like the back of his hand and is able to spot tracks and signs of animals, giving us the best possibilities to find them in the big reserve.

Since it's a private part of the Kruger National Park, the vehicle densities are lower, giving you the full sense of the wild without distractions from many other vehicles to share the sightings with.

We also have the full freedom to be out in the reserve after dark and before sunrise, giving us the opportunity to find the more elusive, nocturnal animals, and to get into the best positions in time for the perfect light for photography, without the stress of having to get back to camp at a certain time.

On this photographic workshop we're focusing on quality over quantity, we are not going to chase animals to tick boxes. We want to focus on quality sightings and elevating your photography, making the most out of the beautiful light during dusk and dawn. We are here for beautiful photos not specific animals.

Reviews From Previous guest

During five magical days in Kruger National Park, I had the pleasure of getting to know two remarkable people, Karolina and Craig, who made this experience unforgettable.
Karolina, a talented wilderness photographer, with her sharp eye and incredible ability to capture the beauty of nature, opened my eyes to the details and nuances of this fantastic landscape. Her passion for her work and love for nature were contagious, and I have learned so much about both photography and the natural world.

The whole thing was so amazing and really, overwhelming. It's hard to reflect on it and remember everything that happened. I'm still trying to make sense of it all and to come up with a narrative that I can share with all the photos I captured. I really appreciated Karolinas and Craig's efforts in making this such an incredible experience for us.
Again. Thank you. I hope we're lucky enough to join you in Kruger one day.
